About Sequoia Day O’Connell, CD(DONA)

“We are so grateful and glad that Sequoia was our doula. We found them to be calm, consistent, prompt with responses and a wonderful advocate.” -G, Birth Client, 2019

“Sequoia was an attentive listener and had a spectacular memory for all the details that we shared with them. I most appreciated Sequoia's willingness to guide me through several different birth plans (i.e., no epidural, epidural, c-section) to help me prepare for anything that could possibly happen during birth. On the day of, Sequoia was calm, informative, patient, funny, and was there for everything we needed.”-B, Birth Client, 2017

I am a birth, abortion, pregnancy loss doula, and postpartum doula and aspiring sex educator offering care to pregnant people in the Seattle area. My doula practice is flexible & knowledgeable—I meet my clients where they are at. I offer comfort measures, tools, and resources that are a good fit for my clients' personal and cultural needs and preferences to help them feel comfortable, safe, and empowered in their unique experience of pregnancy.  I am constantly humbled by my clients and their strength, resilience, and openness. I strive to be the best support I can be for each unique client and family.

Every person and family is worthy of unconditional care, respect, and dignity in their experience of pregnancy and birth.  This belief is why I do what I do. My doula practice is framed with the understanding that pregnancy and birth are not removed from, and are in fact intimately intertwined with the systems of power and oppression--racism, classism, ableism, and anti-queerness--in the United States. I strive to offer doula services to anyone who needs them, and am happy to talk about what works best for you.

I am a birth doula with the Swedish Hospital Doula Program and Open Arms Perinatal Services,  a volunteer abortion doula and core organizer with Full Spectrum Doulas,  and am a certified Birth Doula with DONA International and trained Postpartum Doula with Bastyr University’s Simkin Center.

When I am not working as a doula, you can usually find me organizing with Lion's Main Arts Collective, taking photographs, eating tons of chocolate, or reading sappy poetry.
